Fred Handler Obituary Chicago IL, Death:- Fred Handler, a cherished figure in college basketball, passed away recently, leaving a lasting legacy with the St. Bonaventure University community. Originally from Chicago, Handler began his basketball journey at St. Joseph’s College of Indiana, where he cultivated his passion for the sport.

In 1959, he took the helm as head coach for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, at a time when the program was just emerging as a club sport. Over the course of 23 years, from 1959 to 1982, Handler played a pivotal role in elevating the Bonnies into a formidable varsity team.

His leadership led to multiple winning seasons and fostered a spirit of community and sportsmanship among players, fans, and students. Handler’s influence extended far beyond the court. He was a mentor and role model to countless student-athletes, emphasizing the development of values such as hard work, perseverance, and integrity.

He instilled in his players the importance of balancing academics with athletics, urging them to excel academically while pursuing their love for basketball. His commitment to personal growth left a profound impact on many lives, contributing not only to their athletic careers but also to their overall development as individuals.
